Background

Children have the right to an adequate standard of living, Education (informal and formal) & to be creative . They also have the right to protection from abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination. This includes the right to safe places for children to play. Unfortunately some children especially those in deprived areas do not get to enjoy these basic human rights. As a Single mother, I have always been passionate about children and their developmental issues. My passion to work closely with children goes back a long way before my career in television begun. This propelled me to make personal contributions to spearhead my foundation “The Joselyn  Dumas Foundation”. 

Mission

Support and provide advocacy services for children from birth to the age of 16, with the primary focus of promoting various children related issues, whilst lending a helping hand to make life better for the less fortunate children in our society.

Goals

•Provide adequate educational support for underprivileged children & the youth. 

•Set up an educational fund which will award scholarships to brilliant but needy children. 

•Increase the literacy rate of children living in deprived areas. 

•Provide legal services for children particularly in areas concerning human rights. 

•Provide seed financing and quarterly donations for the general upkeep of the children.

Objectives

•Set Up Educational funds to support brilliant but underprivileged children & improve educational facilities to aid adequate education for standard community schools I’m deprived areas. 

•Provide Educationally Adequate summer programs for underprivileged children in sub-standard schools in Rural Areas. 

•Setting up of libraries, theme parks and sporting facilities for children. 

•Run short adverts on television and on social media, to create awareness on the plight of these children and the need to support this noble cause. 

•Work hand in hand with the Human Rights Organizations such as, the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to advocate legal supports to rescue these children. 

•Renovate low-standard schools especially rural areas.

•Hold Gala events and fundraisers to support & fund our charity initiatives.

Conclusion

It goes without saying that the ideals of the Joselyn Canfor-Dumas Foundation, when translated into reality will go a long way in supporting existing efforts at enhancing the lives of Ghanaian children and children of Africa at large. This is our commitment, a responsibility and contribution towards making our nation and continent a great and strong haven for the future of needy children.    

About Founder

She's always been passionate about children and their developmental issues. Her passion to work closely with children goes back a long way before her career in film & television begun. This propelled her to make personal contributions to spearhead her foundation, The Joselyn Dumas Foundation (JDF).

She's used her foundation to raise funds from both home and abroad to ensure that children have a brighter future, from funding surgeries at Korle-Bu Teaching hospital to spearheading Ghana’s first viral campaign the #Xcholera Campaign that championed eradication of cholera & shed light on safeguarding the environment to combat Climate Change.

She’s gone ahead to work with the United Nations Climate Change body (UNFCCC) moderating high level Conversations in Africa to foster effective climate ambitions & recently the Global Landscapes Forum(GLF) & Climate Chance Africa.  Her charity initiatives clearly defines the United Nations “I Was Here” campaign goal which is to inspire individuals to give back and make the world a better place and she's doing just that.

The Joselyn Dumas Foundation in collaboration with Daniel Amoateng funded the education of a few defiled young girls reintegrating them back to school and provided the assistance they need to over the trauma. Her foundation has partnered with Could You Cup? to provide sanitary/menstrual cups to underprivileged girls in rural areas. The Joselyn Dumas Foundation has a vision for, every needy child in Ghana and Africa as a whole is given the opportunity to attain their fullest potential in life through education.
